India are now on course to clinch a semi-final berth after winning three matches.

Jemima Rodrigues was at her ferocious best as India posted an unbeaten 75 off 45 balls to thrash inexperienced United Arab Emirates by 104 runs in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in Sylhet on Tuesday.

Jemima and Deepti Sharma (64 off 49 balls) added 128 runs in 13.3 overs as UAE sent some shivers down the Indian spine for a while, reducing the tournament favorites to 20 for 3 in the fifth over.

However, the gulf in class between the two teams became more evident as India posted 178 for 5 in 20 overs.

The UAE team, also represented by 11 players of Indian origin, never bothered to compete in their chase, ending their quota of 20 overs at 74 for 4.

Although the big games against Bangladesh and Pakistan are yet to be played, India have now won three matches and are looking strong to clinch a semi-final berth.

Although Smriti Mandhana, S Meghna and the out-of-form Shafali Verma were quick in the dug-out, Jemima and Deepti initially steadied the ship till the 12th over and took the lead at the end when the UAE bowlers found it difficult to control. Flow of runs.

While Jemima hit 11 boundaries, Deepti had five fours and two sixes – including a slog-sweep behind the medium pacer of ’45’.

Jemima has two main scoring zones – one in the arc between square leg and deep mid-wicket and the other between cover and extra cover.

The UAE captain used eight bowlers, but it turned out to be complete chaos as he scored 72 runs in the last six overs.

While chasing, the mindset of the UAE batsmen was ultra defensive and they were more keen not to lose wickets after going down 3 for 5 at the end of the second over.

Kavisha Egodage (30 not out, off 54 balls) and Khushi Sharma (29, off 50 balls) engaged in a 59-run stand where they managed not to get out.

Undoubtedly, India’s stand-in captain Smriti Mandhana was punchy after the win.

“Jamie and Deepti batted brilliantly for their 100-run partnership to bring us back into the game. They (UAE) batted well, one catch fell, but they batted well without giving up their wickets,” Mandhana said at the post-match presentation programme.

“We have plans for our bowlers to get some practice and are happy with what we managed. We want all our batters to hit.”
