Former skipper Virender Sehwag praised Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah for playing their hearts out in India’s first ODI against England at the Kennington Oval in London. On Tuesday, July 12, the duo claimed nine wickets as the Men in Blue bowled out the opposition for 110 runs in 25.2 overs.
Bumrah started wreaking havoc after he got rid of Jason Roy and Joe Root in the same over. Both Root and Roy failed to open their accounts. Bumrah also accounted for the wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone, both of whom failed to trouble the score.
Bumrah picked up his maiden ODI six-wicket haul after also dismissing Brayden Carse and David Willey. On the other hand, Shami took the wickets of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Craig Overton. Sehwag felt that Bumrah and Shami were in a class apart from other fast bowlers.
Sehwag posted on Twitter, “There is no better pairing in world cricket, be it ODI cricket or Test cricket. Bumrah and Shami are a class apart.
After the match, Bumrah, who won the man of the match award, said the bowlers don’t need to try too hard if the conditions are in their favour.
“When there’s swing to offer and seam movement, it’s an exciting time for white-ball cricket. It was great when we got some help early on. When I bowled the first ball, I saw a little bit of swing… if there is any. No swing, you play your length. “You pull back. When the ball does something, you don’t have to try too hard. But when the wicket is flat, your accuracy is tested,” Bumrah was quoted as saying.
