The BET Awards, which celebrate black excellence in music, culture and sports, were presented on Sunday. Taraji P. Lizzo opened the Henson-hosted show with a blistering performance of her latest hit, “About Damn Time.” Several presenters, performers and award recipients called for action after the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade on Friday.

However, there are moments of joy as well. Brandi did a surprise performance with Jack Harlow and Mariah Carey hit some amazing high notes in a surprise performance with Lotto.

Sean “Diddy” Combs received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Fellow artists and former collaborators such as Mary J. Blige and Kanye West have celebrated him.

Will Smith, who sparked controversy at the Academy Awards by slapping Chris Rock on stage shortly before winning the best actor Oscar, won the BET Award for Best Actor on Sunday.
