SC says COA should not take over IOA affairs, extending status quo till further orders


Supreme Courtt Monday was extended its status Until further orders, it said The Delhi High Court appointed a three-member Committee of Administrators (COA) does not undertake the affairs of the Indian Olympic Association.

A bench comprising Justice SA Nazir and Justice JK Maheshwari sought response from the Center and others on the petition filed by the association.

“Issue notice. Status quo shall continue till further orders, list after four weeks,” the bench said.

The case will come up for hearing after four weeks.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Center and the IOA, noted earlier submissions that the order would have adverse consequences on the country and granted interim relief order status quo in the IOA’s affairs.

The CoA appointed by the High Court includes former Supreme Court judge Justice Anil R Dave, former Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi and former Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs Vikas Swarup.

On August 16, the Delhi High Court ordered the formation of a CoA to manage the affairs of the IOA.
