Record-breaking Carter is a Rahane admirer – The Hindu

Ajinkya Rahane is eagerly awaiting the Duleep Trophy starting next week as he returns to competitive cricket from May. He hopes to get back into the Indian team knowing that there is a cricketer from New Zealand.

That Kiwi batsman, Joe Carter, played a few shots at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, which Rahane also approved. After his stunning 197, Carter spoke of his admiration for the Indian veteran of 82 Tests and 90 ODIs.

When asked about his favorite batters in international cricket, the first name he picked was unsurprisingly – Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain. “I really enjoyed watching him; He is definitely one of New Zealand’s greatest cricketers,” he said. “I told Sarfaraz in between [Khan] Probably my favorite player is Rahane [also]. I love how delicate his technique is. I hope he will come back to the Test team,” he said.

Back in 2018, Carter, who was born in England and moved to New Zealand, tied the world record with Brett Hampton. Willem Ludik of Central District scored 43 runs on behalf of Northern Districts in the Ford Trophy. Broke the record for most runs in an over in List A cricket.

India-A bowlers have given him a tough challenge here. “Mukesh Kumar is very precise,” he says. “All the pacers bowled well and swung the ball both ways. Arjan Nagwaswala is a good bowler and Kuldeep bowled very well.
