International Raviraj scored a stunning victory over Delhi’s Ankit Kumar in the men’s 74kg freestyle final at the National Under-23 Wrestling Championship at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Friday.
But after that the Maharashtra wrestler was in a big hurry.
“He ran away without giving a dope test. Federation will take strict action. He ran away with the medal and certificate,” said VN Prasoon, general secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India. The Hindu Here.
“I am waiting for the NADA (National Anti-Doping Agency) report and I will sign it. We will suspend all his results and upgrade other medalists after discussing the issue.
But soon the case became interesting.
“He didn’t take the gold (at the medal ceremony), his friend took it,” revealed another official.
Indian wrestlers have done very well on the international circuit, winning Olympic and World Championship medals, but wrestling is one of the sports that is often in the news when it comes to doping.
NADA is testing all the gold medalists at the Under-23 Nationals in Kochi.
