Just as we change our lifestyle based on the weather, our furry friends also need a change in lifestyle based on their age and needs.

After soaring temperatures, the monsoons have provided much-needed relief. The perfect weather calls for a fun walk outside. Along with us, furry pets come out onto the roads to beat the scorching sun.

Just as we change our lifestyle based on the weather, our furry friends also need a change in lifestyle based on their age and needs. There are many factors to consider during monsoons.

Pets, especially dogs, are prone to indigestion, certain skin conditions and illnesses. During this time, it is important to keep their floors dry, healthy and clean.

Here is a list of things you should keep in mind:

  • After walking, pat them dry to ensure all moisture is absorbed
  • Keep the fur clean and free of infection. You can watch for ticks.
  • Walking outdoors means your pet’s paws are exposed to various microbes, which, if not taken care of, can lead to infection. Make sure you clean their feet and muddy backsplash with warm water.
  • Heavy rain outside means your pet may miss their walk. Make sure you provide exercise at home or keep them busy. Continuous rains can make them bored. Engage with their favorite toys.
  • It is very important to keep a check on their diet during this time. Switch them to light food that is rich in nutrients. Consult a veterinarian before making the switch.
  • Clean their food and water bowls at regular intervals. Due to the drop in temperature, your pet’s water intake may decrease. Keep your pet hydrated.
  • House floors are cold for small children or large pets. Do not let them lie directly on the cold floor. Make arrangements for the bed.
  • Thunderstorms are very scary for them. Keep doors and windows locked. Make sure your contact details are attached to the collar in case your dog runs away.
