Maid tortured and killed for eating fruit from fridge in Pakistan

A minor domestic worker in the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province was brutally tortured and killed by her employers for eating fruit from a refrigerator, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Kamran, who worked as a domestic worker in an upscale neighborhood. Kamran’s 6-year-old brother Rizwan, who worked as a helper in the same house, was also seriously injured, police said.

The two brothers were hired as domestic helpers by Nasrullah, a resident of the posh Defense Housing Authority in Lahore, a year ago.

“On Tuesday, Nasrullah, his wife, two sons and his daughter-in-law severely tortured two children for eating fruits from the refrigerator without permission. They even used knives to inflict injuries on the children,” said police investigator Muhammad Yusuf. PTI

Yusuf said that when the condition of the two children began to deteriorate, Nasrullah admitted them to the hospital and fled the scene.

Kamran was declared dead on the way, while Rizwan’s condition was critical, he said.

Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shebaz took note of the incident and sought a report from the concerned authorities.

Police arrested 5 people including Nasrullah and registered a case of murder against them.

Yusuf said the suspects tortured the two children over petty issues and found dozens of deep wounds on Kamran’s body and the injured Rizwan.

“During interrogation, Nasrullah said that he tied the two children with a rope and tortured them for eating fruits from the refrigerator,” police said.
