Getting seam and swing in white-ball cricket is exciting: Bumrah

Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah said swinging from ball one made his job easier and more exciting as he finished with a career-best six-wicket haul in the first ODI against England in London on Tuesday.

Swing and seam are a rare sight in white-ball cricket but have been a unique feature in England, including three T20s.

Bumrah’s devastating spell setup India won by 10 wickets at the Oval.

“When there’s swing and seam movement, it’s exciting to get that opportunity in white-ball cricket because you have to be defensive with the pitches we usually get.”

“When I bowled the first ball, I found some swing and we tried to capitalize on that. When it doesn’t swing, I have to pull my length back. You don’t have to try too hard when the ball is doing something. Your accuracy will be tested when the wicket is flat. “It’s a good place when the ball is swinging,” he said at the post-match presentation.

As part of the three ODI series, India defeated England by 10 wickets in the first ODI and took a 1-0 lead.

With the ball moving in the air, the Indian pacers decided to bowl at full speed.

“As soon as Shami bowled the first over, we had a conversation to go full. He is very happy to take many wickets. I told him that when he hits the bat, there will be days when he runs the side,” Bumrah said, referring to Mohammed Shami’s three-wicket performance.

Captain Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan shared a century for the 18th time to give India a solid victory.

Rohit’s class shot of 76 off 58 balls is the specialty of the pull shot.

“Shikhar and I understood each other well, except for the misjudgment of the first ball. He is playing ODIs after a long time. We know what he will bring to the table for us,” said Rohit.

“An experienced player and he has done well for us in these situations in the past. The hook is a high-risk shot, I get that, but as long as it lands right, I’m happy,” he said.

England captain Jos Buttler was surprised by the move on offer.

“It’s a tough day to take, but we have to dust ourselves off quickly. A bit of a surprise to the movement, a bit muggy. India has handled the situation brilliantly. They bowled well in the powerplay,’ he said.

“It’s something we have to discuss and work on. We’ve got some guys coming here who are in the form of their lives in Tests. Jasprit is a fantastic bowler. He bowled brilliantly today and deserves these figures,” said Butler.
