Dhanush Sprained His Neck Just One Week Before Shoot But Makers ‘Found a Way’

Dhanush’s special appearance in Netflix’s The Gray Man is eagerly awaited by all his fans for the South Superstar’s Hollywood release. Directed by the Russo Brothers, known for directing multiple films under the MCU banner, the spy thriller features Dhanush as an assassin named Avik Saan. Dhanush recently opened up about shooting the action sequences at a virtual press conference with the foreign press in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Although this is his second film in Hollywood after The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir (2018), Dhanush says that the film made him look at himself as a new person. “I had a lot of time to understand how Hollywood works. I have done about 50 films – worked in the Indian film industry for 22 years. You don’t often get the chance to feel like a newbie. For the first time, it all happens in a blur. You don’t understand what is going on. This time I got a chance to see myself anew. It is truly amazing,” reported Hindustan Times.

But a week before the shooting of his scenes, Dhanush suffered a minor setback. “It’s funny. A week before the shoot, I sprained my neck. So, after a month and a half of training and a week before shooting, I sprained my ankle and was like, ‘What am I going to do?!’ The physio only had a week to prepare me to match Ana Speed [laughs]. But somehow, he found a way to make me fit for the stunt sequence,” he says about preparing for his action sequences.

Dhanush as the killer has two major fight scenes in the film. In the teaser of one such fight scene released by Netflix, Dhanush is seen fighting against a combination of Ana de Armas and Ryan Gosling.

The star-studded cast of The Gray Man, which revolves around the story of a former CIA mercenary, includes Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Billy Bob Thorton, Jessica Henwick and Reese-Jean Page. With a budget of $200 million, the Dhanush starrer is said to be Netflix’s most expensive film to date.

Gray Man premieres on Netflix on July 22.
