Earlier, Indian weightlifter Sanket Sargar started the country’s medal count at the Commonwealth Games by winning silver in the men’s 55 kg category.

The 21-year-old was looking to win gold but both clean and jerk attempts failed as he lifted a total of 248kg (113kg+135kg) to finish second.

Malaysia’s Mohd Anik (249kg) lifted 249kg (107kg+142kg) to win the gold in the clean and jerk, while Sri Lanka’s Dilanka Isuru Kumara bagged the bronze medal with 225kg (105kg+120kg).
