Defending champions India cruised into the semi-finals of the men’s table tennis team event at the Commonwealth Games with a 3-0 win over Bangladesh in the third last-eight tie here on Sunday.

The Achanta Sarath Kamal-led men’s team reached the quarter-finals after defeating Barbados, Singapore and Northern Ireland 3-0 in the group stage. First in the quarter-finals, the doubles pair of Harmeet Desai and Sathyan Gnanasekaran defeated Bangladesh’s Ramhimilian Bam and Mohutasin Ahmed Ridhoi in straight games 11-8 11-6 11-2 to give India a 1-0 lead.

Veteran Sarath Kamal extended India’s lead by defeating MD Rifat Sibber 11-4 11-7 11-2 in the men’s singles.

In the other singles match, Gnanasekaran dominated from start to finish and won the tie easily with a score of 11-2 11-3 11-5.
