Cracking down on immigration fraud, police arrested 2 people who cheated people by claiming to send them abroad

Delhi Police has busted an immigration scam and arrested two agents who allegedly duped people by using fake visas to send them abroad.

They were arrested following the arrest of a passenger with a fake Russian visa from the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Police received a complaint from the IGI Airport Immigration Department on July 20 that a passenger named Suraj Singh had approached the immigration counter seeking immigration to Abu Dhabi, UAE on flight G8-75. On examination of his travel documents, it was found that the business visa of the Russian Federation affixed to the passport was fake with no security features.

Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under IPC Sections 420, 468, 471, 120(B) and 12 PP and investigation was conducted.

During interrogation, Suraj Singh revealed that he wanted to go to Russia for work and for that he contacted Agent Jaswinder Singh. He received one lakh rupees from him and issued a fake Russian visa.

In view of the large-scale fraud going on across the world by duping people by pretending to send them abroad, a team was set up with specific tasks to bust the entire nexus.

The team worked meticulously, used technical surveillance and even sent confidential informers and finally succeeded in arresting Jassi alias Jaswinder. He said that he was working as a deputy agent and was in touch with the main agent Harmesh Chand for the last 2 years. Working as a commission agent, he used to supply temporary passengers to agent Harmesh Chand, who affixed fake visas in the passengers’ passports.

The investigation revealed that the accused, Harmesh Chand, was the mastermind of the entire scam. The team scrutinized the undercover agent’s modus operandi as the accused was not using his previous mobile numbers, so it was difficult for the team to get his location.

After electronic surveillance, Delhi Police intercepted accused Harmesh’s residence in Jalandhar, Punjab. Immediately, the police team conducted searches and after several hours of back-breaking efforts, the accused Harmesh Chand was arrested and subsequently arrested in the case.

Harmesh told the police that he had arranged for a fake visa from an agent named Devender Kumar Patel. Also efforts are being made to trace and arrest Agent Devendra Kumar Patel. The investigation is ongoing.
