Asia Cup 2022 | Pakistan entered the Super 4 after defeating Hong Kong by 155 runs


Mohammad Rizwan (78, 57b, 6×4, 1×6) and Fakhar Zaman (53, 41b, 3×4, 2×6) exploded with half-centuries and Khushdil Shah in a guest role beat Hong Kong by 155 runs to enter the Super 4 of the Asia Cup. Runs on Friday. Pakistan will face India in Dubai on Sunday.

Defending 193 on a slow and low wicket, Naseem Shah (two for seven), Mohammad Nawaz (three for five) and Shadab Khan (four for eight) bowled out Hong Kong for 38 in 10.4 overs.

Earlier, Hong Kong scored 77 runs in the last five overs, with Aizaz Khan scoring 29 runs in the 20th over. Khushdil 35 (15b, 5×6) Aizaz bowled four sixes to bring Pakistan’s innings to a fitting end.

After coming into bat, Babar Azam and Rizwan managed just seven runs in the first two overs. Off-spinner Ehsan Khan (2 for 28), who was introduced in the third over, was caught off the bowling of Babar.

Rizwan smashed Ayush Shukla for two boundaries as Pakistan made 40 for one in six overs. The opener changed gears after the halfway stage, hitting Mohammad Ghazanfar straight for a six. Rizwan scored 50 runs off 42 balls in the 14th over. Meanwhile, Zaman kept the scoreboard ticking with runs of one and two before connecting the sweep for six in the 15th over. He hit Yasim Murtaza with a four and a six – a 101-metre strike – for a 38-ball 50 as Pakistan posted 193 for two. Hong Kong simply oozes class.
