A senior railway official has been arrested for taking bribe from a contractor instead of paying the bill in Agra.

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials has arrested a senior railway official posted at the Divisional Railway Manager’s office in Agra for accepting bribes from a contractor instead of settling the bill.
Officer caught by CBI for taking bribe from contractor outside DRM office staff unit Immediately after receiving the money from the contractor, the CBI officials launched a barrage of attacks on him. In order not to get caught with the money, the officer threw the bundle of money away from him and some of the money was taken away by passers-by.
After the officer’s arrest, most local railway officials switched off their phones.

The cabins of most of the senior officers in the TRM office remained empty till afternoon after the CBI officials interrogated the officer in the presence of senior private officer Mansi Verma.
Divisional Business Manager Prashasti Srivastava told India Today: A railway official has been arrested by the CBI for corruption.
A retired railway official said several senior officials have been caught accepting bribes in the past, but the charges did not last long.
In 2016, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught the Parcel Officer of Agra Fort railway station. In 2018, a railway employee was arrested by the police for deceiving people about getting jobs in the railways. In 2019, Divisional Engineer of Railway Division Agra was arrested by ACP in Dholpur for taking bribe.

Dr S Qureshi, a former member of the Zonal Railway Users’ Advisory Committee, said that corruption was rampant in the railways and that although many people were caught accepting bribes, the action taken against them was kept secret.
He said that the matter was raised in ZRUCC meetings but the names of officials caught taking bribes and their punishment were not given.
