Popular South film actor and director Pratap Pothen passed away in Chennai on Friday. He is 69 years old.
Confirming the actor’s death at his flat on Kilpauk Garden Road, a police official said preliminary reports suggested he died of natural health causes. The Kilpauk police will investigate further, the official said.
The police cordoned off the area as a large number of film celebrities would gather to pay their last respects.
Born in Thiruvananthapuram, Pothen not only directed some super hit films but acted in more than 100 films in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu languages.

The veteran actor-director is known for his unique dialogue delivery and has acted in several Tamil and Malayalam films with top stars including Kamal Haasan. Varumaiin Niram SivappuDirected by the legendary K Balachander.
He also directed the hit film Potene Vetri Viz Haasan, among his other directorial ventures.
His movies are in Tamil Mindum Oru Kathal Kathai, threeMe (directed by Balu Mahendra) and Paneer Pushpangal And he has done many roles in his career including negative shades.
Paying tributes to the actor, Malayalam actor Prithivraj Sukumaran mourned the death of the actor.
