Actor Althaf Manaf on making a space for himself in Malayalam films


Altaf Manaf was 16 when he auditioned for Anil Radhakrishna Menon’s 2015 fantasy adventure film Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi. Despite a few moments on screen, Altaf was filled with a sense of accomplishment. He made it to the big screen through an audition, with no acting experience or anyone to guide him.

His second film was the following year, Midhun Manuel Thomas’ Sunny Wayne-starrer Ann Maria Kalippinu. This For a while, his role was long and notable. He plays Sarath, a boy-next-door who helps heroine Ann Maria find a hitman to get revenge on her physical training teacher. “Even though I didn’t have the experience of being on set or among established actors, I didn’t feel out of place or intimidated,” says Altaf.

Acting came naturally while facing the camera, says Altaf. “But not so during acting camps. Many films have acting camps that help each actor get into the role and are a great platform to perfect the part. But I could never act in an acting camp. I was a bundle of nerves in the acting camp,” laughs Altaf.

Altaf acted in 19 films in his seven-year career. “I have always been passionate about cinema. Since my childhood, I had a dream to be a part of films. My family also supported me. I was trying to make my own contacts in the industry and today, I am happy with how my career has turned out,” says Altaf from Thrissur.

Altaf will be seen in upcoming films cup Starring Basil Joseph, Guru Somasundaram and Jude Anthani. He is also a part Kunjamini Hospital Indrajith, Naila Usha, Prakash Raj, Baburaj and others acted. Currently, Altaf is working on a comedy, feel-good film based on Vypeen under the direction of Jackson Antony.

“Coming this far is a huge achievement for me. I want to be a part of films,” says Altaf, who also plans to learn other aspects of film, such as cinematography and editing.
