Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar felicitated 94-year-old Bhagwani Devi for winning a gold medal and two other medals at the 2022 World Masters Athletics Championship in Finland.
Hailing Ms. Devi from Haryana, Mr. Khattar said that at the age of 94, she has become an inspiration to the entire world.
“This achievement of hers will serve to inspire the youth. Bhagwani Devi has once again proved that age is no barrier to achieve anything in life,” he said in an official statement.
Bhagwani Devi won gold in the 100m sprint in the senior citizen category, the statement said. She finished with a timing of 24.74 seconds.
Three medals
Governor Dattatreya also congratulated Devi for her miracle.
“Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Bhagwani Devi who inspired the whole world by winning three medals including a gold at the World Masters Athletics Championship in Finland at the age of 94.
“This great achievement by you will instill more enthusiasm for sports among the youth,” the governor said in a tweet in Hindi.

Bronze in shot put
“At the #WorldMastersAthleticsChampionships in Tampere she won the gold medal in the 100m sprint event with a timing of 24.74 seconds. She also bagged a bronze in the shot put. A truly commendable effort!,” it said.
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also congratulated Devi for her feat. “Age is no barrier! Very inspiring!,” Thakur tweeted.
